The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain.

Well, it must, because here in the Pyrenees it´s all sunshine and blue skies.

Two nights in the beautiful Pyrenees village of Vielha e Mirajan staying at the Parador de Vielha.  Between us we know about six Spanish words and I´m happy to say that after the first day we´ve increased our vocabulary by  probably more than 100%.  If we continue in this manner we should soon be able to read a menu!

Vielha is surrounded by snow-capped 2,000m peaks.  It´s surprisingly warm here in the village at 1,000m - 20 degrees, and beautiful sitting outside with señor eating pinchos and drinking cerveza in the town square.  Watching over us is the octagonal tower of the 12th century Inglesia San Miguel, whose bells ring out every hour.

San Miguel is one of the Romanesque style churches in the Val D´Aran - this area of Catalonia - built in the middle ages and now UNESCO world heritage listed.

Along the autoroute towards Spain.
Our first glimpse of the Pyrenees.

Arriving in Vielha in the Val D'Aran, Catalonia.
