Porto Katsiki and that blue again

Gloriously isolated on the west of Lefkada in the Ionian Sea is Porto Katsiki beach.  It means "Port of the Goat" because only a mountain goat could reach it.  Before the rock steps were carved, that is.
We drove to Porto Katsiki one day, and took the boat to it the next.  Its beauty pulls you back and we had lovely, long summer days surrounding by this dramatic backdrop.

On the mountain road leading to the beach there are a number of  family tavernas.  The road is windy and we amble along at only 40 kph.  As we pass each taverna, there standing on the roadside, is someone waving a menu as we pass and encouraging us to return to their taverna after we've been to the beach.

Slow down, collect a menu and have a chat with the local.  It's fun and very Greek!

The car park is just a dusty, cleared area at the edge of the cliff.  There are also a couple of cafes. It is some 120 steps from the cliff top car park and cafe down to the sand and smooth-pebble beach already set up with a row of blue sunbeds and umbrellas. The cafe offers free delivery for lunch and drinks. You only need to sit up in your sun lounge and there, not far away, is someone ready to take your order, run up the 120 steps and back down!

It's a stunning location and a unique beach experience.

Sheer white cliffs down to blue, blue sea.

6E per day for a sunbed and umbrella but you don't really need
an umbrella.  The cliff provides shade from the hot midday sun.

Next day we arrived by ferry boat.

Fringed in green, the beach looks like it's been sliced from the cliff.
From the car park you can climb to the this spectacular point.

Summer

A road side taverna that we stopped at on the way home from Porto Katsiki.
We tried their own olives and feta baked in charcoal. Wonderful!
